Institute reissues fundraising codes

Four codes of practice have been updated to comply with new legislation

The Institute of Fundraising has reissued four of its codes of fundraising practice to bring them in line with changes in legislation.

The codes of practice Data Protection, The Management of Static Collection Boxes, Telephone Fundraising and Raffles and Lotteries have been updated by the institute's legal review team.

The biggest changes were made to the Raffles and Lotteries code, which was revised after the introduction of the Gambling Act 2005, effective from 1 September 2007.

Amendments reflect the Government's lifting of the maximum ticket price for lotteries and the fact that special licences must be obtained in order to carry out lotteries over the telephone or using the internet.

The reviews are the first in a series of updates to be carried out by the legal review team to ensure all codes are consistent with new legislation such as the Charities Act 2006, the Gambling Act 2005 and the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005.

The team, which met for the first time on 18 October, will meet every six weeks to review the codes.
