Interpal issues writ over Hamas claims

Palestinian support charity Interpal has issued a writ for defamation against the Board of Deputies of British Jews over claims it was linked to terrorist group Hamas.

Last month, the Charity Commission cleared Interpal of similar accusations by the US government. But the Board of Deputies of British Jews continued to display a press release referring to the charity's alleged links with terrorism on its website.

Interpal sent the Jewish organisation a letter demanding an apology and removal of the release. A notice on the site currently claims that it is being redesigned and that all text is under revision.

However, the correspondence between the organisations' solicitors did not elicit an apology from the Board, prompting Interpal to launch legal action last week.
