John Grooms set to grow its campaign work with new post

Disability charity John Grooms has appointed its first public affairs officer to spearhead an expansion of its lobbying and campaign work. Graham Nickson joins from brain injury charity Headway. The charity has also appointed a new operations director, Martin Burke.

The charity has been working with research companies to establish a survey group of disabled people of all ages. Findings from their first survey sparked John Grooms' campaign to get more homes suitable for the disabled (Third Sector, 10 December). There is more work planned for 2004.

There are also plans to recruit more Parliamentary champions. Labour MPs Kerry Pollard, Anne Begg and cross-bench peer Baroness Valerie Howarth already work closely with the charity.
