Supporters will be given laptops or handheld devices with which to register their bids. Bidding can be either exclusive to the people at the event or open to absent supporters through the Buy Once Give Twice website.
The organisation will provide charities with the laptops and other equipment needed to run the auctions, taking its fee as a percentage of the amount raised at each event. The model is designed to eliminate the large up-front costs associated with traditional auctions.
Buy Once Give Twice was launched in April this year to encourage people to resell unused items they had won at charity auctions. It has since expanded to become a more general charity auction service.
