Lawful assembly

A representative from the Homerton Hospital branch of trade union Unison at an assembly of more than 500 people to debate the issues that they want London's mayoral candidates in June's election to address. Organised by charity London Citizens, the event was attended by people representing London's churches, mosques, unions, schools and student groups. Delegates decided to prioritise calls for a London living wage, land for affordable housing, socially useful holiday work for 16-18-year-olds, and improved neighbourhood safety. Mayor Ken Livingstone will be asked to agree to the 'people's agenda' at a meeting later this month, and all mayoral candidates will attend an assembly on 4 May where 2,300 delegates will ask them to formally endorse it.
