Lawrence Dallaglio, the former England rugby captain, and Andrew Flintoff, the former England cricket captain, will lead a 2,817km charity cycle ride from Greece to London next year in aid of Cancer Research UK and Great Ormond Street Hospital. The pair aim to raise £2.012m in their April 2012 Cycle Slam and will be joined by more than 250 members of the public. Dallaglio said: "We have a strict training programme and thousands of kilometres ahead of us, but we are up for the challenge. We want the public to get behind us and support the whole team of riders."

Members of the cast of the ITV show The Only Way Is Essex took part in a Guinness World Record attempt on 27 November at the Oval cricket ground in south London for the largest gathering of people dressed as Santa Claus. The event was filmed for the launch of ITV's first Text Santa show, which will raise money for nine charities.

The broadcaster Louis Theroux, the comedian Clive Anderson and the former London mayor Ken Livingstone gathered at London Zoo this month for a night of celebrity speeches. The event raised £46,000 for the charity Save the Rhino International.

The Capital FM presenter Margherita Taylor opened TreeHouse School's new sixth-form facilities for young people with autism in north London on 22 November. It was funded through a grant of £98,000 from Help a Capital Child, Capital FM's charity.

The model Caprice and students from American InterContinental University held a Thanksgiving Day meal for homeless women at the Marylebone Project in London on 23 November. The meal was donated by the university.
