The British artist Jonathan Darby works on one of the paintings from his new exhibition, Favela.

The paintings are based on pictures taken by the photographer Gregory J Smith for the Children at Risk Foundation, a charity that rescues young people from the streets in São Paolo, Brazil.

This piece is one of a collection that is being displayed at the Signal Gallery in Shoreditch, east London, until 2 April.

Thirty-five prints of the image that Darby is working on in this picture will be sold to raise funds for charity.
