Lobby called over Mental Health Bill

Nathalie Thomas

The Mental Health Alliance is organising the charity sector's first mass lobby of the new parliamentary session next week.

It is urging supporters of its 78 member organisations to converge on Parliament on 28 November to protest against the Mental Health Bill - one of the 29 Bills announced in last week's Queen's Speech - which it says is inadequate.

"It's quality health services that will protect people, not this legislation, which is opposed by mental health experts across the board," said Paul Farmer, chief executive of Mind.

The alliance is encouraging supporters to speak to their constituency MPs about bringing the Bill closer into line with Scottish mental health legislation.
