London Air Ambulance adds logo to fleet

London Air Ambulance's helicopter, cars and communications material will now feature its own logo alongside that of its sponsor, Virgin, in order to emphasise its charitable status.

Andrew Cameron, chief executive of the service, said that its logo, which combines concentric circles representing rotating rotor blades with a medical cross, had been commissioned to highlight the fact that the air ambulance depends on a constant stream of donations and sponsorship.

“We feel that a fresh and unique identity will help our efforts to ensure that our contribution stays highly visible to the public,” he said. “The logo will play an important role in communicating the confidence, strength, professionalism and dependability of this critical London service.”

Mark Lappin, managing director of Bite CP, which designed the logo, said the challenge had been to create a striking design simple enough to be seen from the ground when the helicopter was in flight, but also “not too overwhelming” for other items such as business stationery.

He said it was also important that the logo did not overshadow the logo of Virgin, whose sponsorship of the air ambulance will continue.
