Managers course is to move online

Leicester University is to offer a distance learning course on managing voluntary and community organisations.

The course, which starts in April, is intended to improve management skills within the third sector. It has been offered by the university's campuses at Leicester and Northampton for four years, but students can now study for it online.

"We wanted to expand it through distance learning because the voluntary sector is expanding," said course administrator Jane Christie.

The three-year, two-level foundation degree course is aimed primarily at people already at work in the voluntary sector. It costs £2,400.

A certificate of higher education, costing £1,200, is also available to those who complete only the first level.

Students will learn to manage operations within their own organisations as well as relationships with outside agencies.
