Manifesto for older people planned

A charity for older people is to publish a manifesto in the run-up to this year's political conferences.

Counsel and Care is staging a series of events this summer to find out which issues matter most to older people.

Their views will be contained in a manifesto that will be presented to the political parties at the autumn conferences.

Over-60s will be invited to speak out at events in Leeds and Southampton. The charity has also started a blog on which people can give their views.

"While older people's care and support is rising to the top of the political agenda in 2008, it is less certain whether the wider concerns that affect the whole lives of older people will be addressed in the lead-up to the next General Election," said Stephen Burke, chief executive of Counsel and Care.
