Manor and Castle Development Trust is working with local authorities to thrash out a new public service agreement that will see the organisation start to manage and source regeneration funding for local community groups.
"The idea is that we will start working as a local management centre for regeneration funds," said Mike Patterson, regeneration director at the trust. "We're working towards simplifying the whole complicated process of applying for funding, which will speed up the distribution of money to local communities."
The development forms part of the Government's Neighbourhood Renewal and Social Exclusion programme that aims to halve the number of funding bodies that community groups have to cope with to secure project funding.
The trust will have more flexibility and freedom to handle grants and will have more scope to monitor and evaluate community projects and source suitable funding routes.
