Microsoft has launched a campaign in the UK that invites people to nominate charities for a $50,000 ($32,800) donation from the software giant.

The campaign, called Upgrade Your World, asks people to nominate a not-for-profit organisation using Twitter, Instagram or Facebook by using the hashtags #upgradeyourworldUK and #vote.

The campaign, which began in the US, has been broadened to include 10 other countries, including the UK. Microsoft has chosen five organisations in each country to receive the $50,000 donation, and a further five will be determined by a public vote.

AbilityNet, Childnet International, Comic Relief, Launchpad and UK Youth are the five that have been selected by Microsoft in the UK.

To be eligible for the donation, an organisation must have a registered account on Twitter, have charitable status in its own country and a mission to benefit a local community, Microsoft said.
