Minister receives hub ultimatum

The voluntary sector umbrella bodies leading the ChangeUp hubs have issued an ultimatum to charities minister Fiona Mactaggart that they will not establish the hubs unless funding is guaranteed beyond one year.

The NCVO, Charities Aid Foundation, Charities Evaluation Services, Volunteering England and the NACVS finally settled on the wording of the letter (Third Sector, 16 February) and sent it off last week.

It states that they "cannot enter into one-year contracts" on the hubs, because such short-termism is in nobody's best interest.

The letter points out that the Home Office settlement for 2006-2009 includes additional funding for infrastructure and that hub business plans are all based on getting funding of at least £1.5m a year for two years, as requested by the Active Communities Unit.
