Money matters: Chief executives' forum; filing accounts online and the difference between grants and contracts

David Ainsworth's round-up of what's happening in the finance world

A discussion forum has been launched to enable charity chief executives in south-east England to network and develop best practice. The forum is open to chief executives of charities in the region with incomes in excess of £500,000 and by invitation only. Diana Greenman, chief executive of Music in Hospitals, will chair the second event on 18 May at St Catherine's Hospice in Crawley.

The Charity Finance Directors' Group is asking charities to test prototype software that will allow them to file their accounts online with HM Revenue & Customs. Online filing will be mandatory from next year. For more information, visit the 'policy liaison groups' section of the CFDG website.

A briefing note on the difference between grants and contracts has been produced by Highlands and Islands Enterprise, the development agency for the north of Scotland. The report was prepared by social entrepreneurs network Senscot and The Pool, the consultancy service of Development Trusts Association in Scotland.
