The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales will hold two charity accounting conferences next month. One will take place on 16 November at the Business Design Centre, London; the other on 23 November at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Manchester. Speakers at both include Don Bawtree, head of charities at accountants BDO, and Alison McKenna, principal judge of the charity tribunal.

Thirty-seven students graduated with the Certificate in Charity Finance and Accountancy, a vocational award for charity finance workers, at the end of last month. Forty students have already been accepted on the 2011 course for the qualification, run by London South Bank University and the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy.

The School for Social Entrepreneurs will open its next branch at University College Suffolk in Ipswich in early 2011. The school will be run by Choose Suffolk, the development agency for the county. The school already has a branch in Australia and plans to expand into New Zealand and Canada.
