The Russian Prime Minister, Vladimir Putin, entertained guests at a charity auction by playing the piano and singing in English a rendition of Fats Domino’s hit Blueberry Hill at the weekend. The auction, in St Petersburg, was attended by international stars including the actors Kevin Costner and Sharon Stone.

The homelessness charity Crisis has warned that it faces a bed shortage over Christmas if it cannot find a building to house one of its shelters. Between 23 and 30 December, the charity will run nine centres across London for homeless people, but a change in circumstance has meant it will be one building and 150 beds short of its target.
