NCVO membership swells to 6,000

A south Asian arts charity has become the 6,000th member of the National Council for Voluntary Organisations.

Manchester-based Shisha supports and commissions works from artists and craftsmen of south Asian descent and facilitates education projects. The NCVO now has more than 500 members in the north west.

Sir Graham Melmoth, chair of the NCVO, said: "We are especially pleased that our 6,000th member is an arts organisation. It is by having a wide and diverse membership base that we can be truly representative of the sector. Cultural organisations are an essential part of that mix."

Fareda Khan, deputy director of Shisha, said: "We are thrilled and thankful to be part of a large and diverse network of worthy organisations."
