New commission on future of sector funding

A new commission to look at the state of funding for the whole of the third sector after 2010 has been announced by umbrella body the NCVO.

The new Funding Commission will look at concerns such as funding volatility and planning for uncertainty over the next 10 years.

"The creation of this commission is a very exciting development as it represents the first tangible output from our new civil society agenda," said Stuart Etherington, chief executive of the NCVO.

"We expect to have the commission up and running by early 2009. Its job will be to come up with practical and public policy proposals that ensure secure funding for the voluntary sector, for the longer term."

The commission intends to appoint a chair by the end of this year.
