New membership group for charity accountancy firms

A national accountancy membership body has set up a specialist group for accountancy firms working in the not-for-profit sector.

CharterGroup, which has 55 member firms, set up the Specialist Charities Group to allow accountancy practices to discuss topical issues in the sector and share experiences.

It will also attempt to influence auditing and accounting policy in the voluntary sector, and market the services of its members.

"In bringing this group together we are able to offer a specialist service to the charity sector at a local and national level, serving the needs of all charities, irrespective of size," said Gary Corbett, chief executive of CharterGroup.

The group, which currently has 23 members, will be co-chaired by Ian Brookman, from Ensors in Ipswich, and Jane Marshall, from Barber Harrison & Platt in Sheffield.
