Nominated charities must align with Deutsche Bank’s Born to Be programme, with a clear focus on young people and helping them to reach their full potential. This year the charities are Sparks and World Child Cancer.
Starting in January 2016, Deutsche Bank’s Charities of the Year programme will be a two-year partnership with two charities, enabling the bank to make an even bigger impact on the chosen charities. The longer partnership will enable charities to build key relationships and focus on initiatives that deliver maximum fundraising value and high employee buy-in over a longer period of time. Charities must be nominated by a Deutsche Bank employee and eligible charities will be taken through to a second round of voting by all UK employees.
Established in 1999, Deutsche Bank’s Charities of the Year programme is a model of employee engagement and fundraising. To date, it has raised more than £13.5m for 22 charities. The basis is to provide employees with a platform to nominate and select charities they feel personally connected to. It forms part of Deutsche Bank’s UK Corporate Citizenship strategy, and aims to build employee pride and affinity to Deutsche Bank’s commitment to society.
Over the years, fundraising has created a lasting impact on Charities of the Year partners and beneficiaries. AfriKids was able to fund an eco lodge to add to sustainable growth of the income-generation side of the charity, and War Child was able to expand programmes to a new country due to Deutsche Bank fundraising. However, the benefits aren’t purely financial. Charities report support given to organisational change, new business generation and increased profile and networks as significant benefits.
