The Wellcome Trust's £550m bond issue was named sterling bond of the year by capital markets analyst International Financing Review. The 30-year bond, which received a triple-A credit rating when it was launched in July, will allow Wellcome to increase grant funding for medical research.

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is to investigate whether its investments are socially responsible. The decision follows claims by the Los Angeles Times that the foundation has profited from investments that "contravened" its good works.

The Construction Industry Council London and the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors are offering free property advice to charities on issues that include refurbishments, leasing, relocation and service charges. Queries should be sent to propertyadvice@cic.org.uk.

The NCVO is launching the third stage of its sustainable funding project, which encourages voluntary and community organisations to diversify their income streams in the face of grant cuts from local, central and European government. The project will now offer workshops on diversification around the country, and will provide guidance online at www.ncvo-vol.org.uk/sfp.
