The Wellcome Trust's £550m bond issue was named sterling bond of the year by capital markets analyst International Financing Review. The 30-year bond, which received a triple-A credit rating when it was launched in July, will allow Wellcome to increase grant funding for medical research.

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is to investigate whether its investments are socially responsible. The decision follows claims by the Los Angeles Times that the foundation has profited from investments that "contravened" its good works.
