Nick Caplin appointed chief executive at Blind Veterans UK

Blind Veterans UK has appointed the retired army Major General Nick Caplin as its next chief executive. He will join in October and replaces Robert Leader, who died in April.

Hugh Pelham has been appointed chief executive of Community Foster Care, a charity that provides foster carers for cared-for children. He joins from the Children's Family Trust, where he was both regional manager and a trustee.

Caroline Taylor, programmes director at the grant-maker the Essex Community Foundation, has been promoted to deputy chief executive.

Help the Hospices, which supports the work of more than 200 UK hospices, has appointed Ros Taylor as national director for hospice care on a part-time basis. Taylor will combine the role with her job as director of the Hospice of St Francis in Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire.

Dean Benton, former director of marketing and communications at the forces charity the RAF Benevolent Fund, has joined the Type 1 diabetes charity JDRF as director of fundraising.

Greg Ussher, acting chief executive of the equality charity Metro, has been given the job on a permanent basis.
