Nicva has hand in Northern Ireland Assembley group

Umbrella group will provide secretariat

An all-party group on the voluntary and community sector has been formed in the Northern Ireland Assembly.

The group has 13 founder members from across the political spectrum. The Northern Ireland Council for Voluntary Action will provide its secretariat.

Seamus McAleavey, chief executive of Nicva, told the inaugural meeting of the group last Tuesday about his aspirations for a formalised relationship between the North Ireland Executive and the sector.

He told Third Sector he hoped the all-party group would examine proposals for a new framework drawn up by Nicva and executive officials once they received ministerial approval, which he expected imminently.
