NSPCC shelves consumer magazine

Your Family withdrawn but will continue online

Children's charity the NSPCC has temporarily halted publication of its bi-monthly Your Family magazine as a cost-cutting measure.

The charity will continue to produce its online version of the magazine, www.yourfamily.org.uk, and said it would actively investigate ways to restart the print version.

Your Family was launched in 2005 and was first distributed free through branches of Woolworths. A year later, the Early Learning Centre became the sole distributor.

The NSPCC will consider more lucrative distribution models, including using a larger number of outlet stores, distributing the magazine through less conventional channels such as holiday camps and introducing a charge for some of the copies.

An NSPCC spokesman said: "We have put Your Family into cold storage for the next year as a way of cutting costs during the recession. The magazine is not part of our business plan for 2009, but exploring other distribution models certainly is, and we plan to relaunch the title after a year."

He said there had been no job losses at the charity as a result of the decision because production had been outsourced to publishing firm Redwood Publishing.
