Office counsel for voluntary groups

Graham Willgoss

A new property advice service for the voluntary sector will be launched in May.

The service offers charities guidance on finding an office, lease negotiations, moving in, managing their tenancies and moving out.

It is provided by the Ethical Property Foundation, the charitable arm of the Ethical Property Company.

"Charities are too trusting," said Jo Taylor, director of the Ethical Property Foundation. "Most commercial property landlords are tough negotiators, and too often charities find themselves locked into bad deals."

The foundation has a register of solicitors, surveyors and space planners on hand to offer free or affordable advice. Over-the-phone advice is available for quick queries.
