Older people's charity to close with almost 40 jobs at risk

Age UK Dudley is set to close with the likely loss of almost 40 jobs.

The older people’s charity said in a short statement that it was expecting to cease operating at the end of June because of “funding difficulties”.

The charity, which had an income of slightly more than £1m in the year to the end of March 2016, has seen its income drop to £803,404 in 2018/19. It has spent more than it has earned in each of the past four years.

The charity has 37 employees, according to figures on the Charity Commission’s online register.

It has been providing services for about 7,000 people a year, local media reported.

The charity’s statement said: “With deep sadness Age UK Dudley charity will be closing on 30 June 2020 due to funding difficulties.

“All of our Age UK Dudley services will be running as normal for now and closing mid to late June.”

Nobody from the charity responded to a request for further comment from Third Sector on Friday afternoon.
