Overlapping homelessness charities merge

Homelessness charities Catalyst NE and the Depaul Trust have merged, the pair announced this week.

Catalyst, a small charity providing services for homeless young people in North Tyneside, has folded into Depaul, which provides similar services on a national scale.

The two organisations decided to merge after it became apparent they were carrying out the same work in the region. All Catalyst staff – about 20 people – have now become Depaul employees.

Lisa Short, community fundraising assistant for Depaul, who handled communications for Catalyst, said the merger strengthened Catalyst’s work. “Through merging we are able to offer a broader range of projects to our young people,” she said.

“There was one particular project we offered where there was lots of overlap, and this is just a better position for the service.”
