Do you want a career that makes a fundamental difference? Do you care about how older people are supported in their own homes? Vincentian Care Plus is looking for a chief executive officer to lead its team of staff and volunteers and work with the trustee board to shape its future strategy.
We spoke to Glen von Malachowski, chair of Vincentian Care Plus, to find out more about the chief executive role and what it’s like to work for this well established London-based charity.
Tell us about Vincentian Care Plus and the work you do
Vincentian Care Plus is dedicated to improving the lives of older people and vulnerable adults by providing hourly care and support. Our purpose is to ensure every hour of support we provide improves people’s quality of life.
Our name and inspiration comes from Saint Vincent de Paul and we seek to translate his spirit and values to meet today's needs. Embracing diversity and inclusion, we endeavour to address hour by hour the dependency, incapacity and vulnerability of the elderly in the Borough of Westminster.
What role are you currently recruiting for and what does it involve?
We are seeking an inspirational leader (CEO) who possesses the knowledge, skills and values to work with our committed team of staff and trustees to formulate and operationalise a strategic plan.
What kind of person are you looking for?
We seek someone who believes in the value of older people and is passionate about enabling them to live independently in their own homes. Someone who embraces personalisation and believes engaged staff make a qualitative difference through discretionary effort.
Why would someone want to work for Vincentian Care Plus?
This is an opportunity to make a real difference and be involved in addressing one of the major challenges facing our society. The charity has been challenged in recent times by the funding climate and regulatory context. However, with the support of the LA and independent consultants, it is re-emerging stronger and even more passionate to succeed. It is an exciting time to become involved.
What exciting projects are you working on?
We have a contract to provide hourly support in Westminster for the next five years and possibly beyond. We want to excel in its delivery and explore ways of engaging our staff that make us unique in the sector. We have an experienced and supportive trustee board who have a track record of succeeding.
What opportunities for training and development are there?
We would be delighted to discuss the successful applicant’s learning and development needs and facilitate whatever would further the needs of the organisation. We are a learning organisation - constructive feedback and staff development are critical pillars of our goal of continuous improvement.
What tips would you offer applicants?
Help us to understand what drives you and what are you passionate about. Obviously we want to know what you have done in the past and your qualifications but what we really want to hear is what you would bring to this job. Above all, how would you address the challenge of engaging and motivating people to consistently give their best? How would you create an organisation that people want to work for? What would be your vision for the future?
Sum up what it’s like to work for Vincentian Care Plus
This is an exceptional opportunity to join an organisation that is supportive, committed and determined to excel. It is an outstanding opportunity to make a real difference and gain experience and insight into one of the biggest challenges we face. The way a society treats its older generation and its vulnerable people has to be a true reflection of its values.
