Politics: Third sector 'can solve age issues'

The third sector can play a critical role in dealing with the fallout of an ageing population, Acevo has told Gordon Brown.

Stephen Bubb, chief executive of Acevo, has written to the Chancellor explaining how the sector can help resolve some of the most pressing challenges of the 21st century, arising from situations such as demographic change and globalisation.

"An ageing population has a number of ramifications," Bubb wrote. "It emphasises the role the sector can play in providing volunteer and carer support, developing policies that engage older people and redesigning public services to ensure user engagement."
