Be prepared

More than 35,000 girl guides have completed the Disability Awareness Challenge, a series of activities that give Girlguiding UK members an understanding of what it is like to complete different tasks with sensory, physical or learning difficulties. Over the past eight months, thousands of guides and leaders have tackled challenges such as miming nursery rhymes, building Lego structures with one hand tied in a sling, and creating a sensory garden for blind and partially sighted people. The challenge was developed in the run-up to the implementation of the final stage of the Disability and Discrimination Act this month, and exceeded all Girlguiding's expectations. The organisation has more than 13,000 members with a disability.
