Public urged to throw some light on National Moth Night

The Cheshire Wildlife Trust is celebrating National Moth Night on 7 June by urging the public to go moth spotting by hanging illuminated white sheets in their gardens or searching with among their favourite plants.

There are 2,500 species of moth, compared with only 60 species of butterfly. The trust says moths get overlooked despite the fact that they play an important ecological role by acting as pollinators for plants and prey for animals such as birds and bats.

But many moths are now in decline because of agricultural chemicals and climate change.
