Queen's birthday honour for Beefy

A knighthood and eight CBEs were among honours for charity and voluntary sector figures in the Queen's birthday list last weekend.

Former England cricket captain Ian Botham received a knighthood "for services to charity and to cricket".

Shami Chakrabarti, director of Liberty, received a CBE, as did Jane Tomlinson, who began running marathons after being diagnosed with cancer. CBEs also went to Andrew Fremantle, chief executive of the RNLI, Jane Denton, director of the Multiple Births Foundation, Charles Fraser, chief executive of housing charity St Mungos, Colonel Duncan Green, former director general of the Battersea Dogs and Cats Home, Derek Twine, chief executive of the Scout Association and Hugh Mackintosh, former director of Barnardo's Scotland.
