Readers doubt plans to amalgamate volunteering and workforce services

The majority of respondents to a Third Sector poll think that volunteering should not be amalgamated with workforce issues in ChangeUp's proposed new national support services, the final decision on which is due to be announced by Capacitybuilders later today.

In response to the question “Should 'volunteering' and 'workforce' be combined in the new ChangeUp national support services?”, 40 per cent said yes, while 60 per cent said no.

Volunteering organisations such as Volunteering England and Timebank UK, as well as Navca and YouthNet have condemned Capacitybuilders' proposals to amalgamate the existing Volunteering and Workforce Hubs into one national support service, claiming the move would risk a fall in volunteer numbers.

However, last week Capacitybuilders chief executive Simon Hebditch said he was still not persuaded of the need for a separate volunteering support service.
