Recession 'no excuse for poor fundraising results'

Consultant Margaret Bennett to address International Fundraising Congress

Charities should not use the recession as an excuse for poor fundraising performance, delegates at this year's International Fundraising Congress in Holland will hear this week.

Margaret Bennett, director of Think Consulting Solutions, will warn fundraisers that the recession will show up any weak spots in fundraising strategies.

"Markets are never predictable, so we must not use the recession as an excuse," she will say.

Fundraisers should be ready to increase or cut back on fundraising activities, depending on how effective they are, Bennett will tell delegates. She will also urge charities to focus on retaining supporters rather than recruiting new donors.

The annual conference will be held between 20 and 23 October.
