Regulation comes under spotlight

Delegations from the UK and the Republic of Ireland will meet tomorrow in Belfast to discuss the future of charity regulation.

The UK and Ireland Charity Regulators' Forum will consider topics of shared interest such as governance and legislative progress.

The group includes representatives from the Charity Commission, the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator, the Voluntary and Community Unit from Northern Ireland and the Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs in Ireland.

The forum was conceived in 2002 to ensure a consistent regulatory approach across the sector. It has been meeting twice a year since 2006.

"This allows us all to be stronger regulators," said Seamus Murray, director of the Northern Ireland VCU.
