The Charity Commission has appointed an interim manager for a debt counselling charity as part of a statutory inquiry into the charity’s financial management.
The regulator announced this morning that Adam Stephens, from the accountancy firm Smith & Williamson, was appointed interim manager of the Rav Chesed Trust on 24 February.
The charity is the subject of a statutory inquiry into its financial management and administration, and will seek to find if the trustees have put its funds at risk. It was the subject of a previous Charity Commission inquiry after repeatedly failing to submit its accounts to the commission on time.
On 19 February 2015, the charity was dropped from a class inquiry into charities that had failed on two or more occasions to submit their accounts, having provided accounts for the financial years ending 31 July 2011, 2012 and 2013.
Despite this, the charity missed its deadline for submitting its 2014 accounts, meaning the ongoing statutory inquiry was opened in August 2015.
The charity later submitted its accounts for the year to 31 July 2014.
When announcing the statutory inquiry, the Charity Commission said the trust had submitted its accounts and annual report late every year since the year ending 31 July 2005, and had provided accounts only after the commission took action.
But the Charity Commission website shows that the charity’s 2015 accounts were submitted on time.
According to the Charity Commission website, the charity spent £447,367 and had an income of £507,780 in the year to 31 July 2015.
