Regulator's web assistance for umbrella groups

The Charity Commission has started publishing a list of newly registered charities on its website in a bid to help umbrella and support organisations access new members.

The list, which will be updated weekly, was created in response to a request by second-tier organisations eager to approach new charities to offer them support.

“It will help new charities join up with those who can help them on their journeys as quickly as possible,” said Bharat Mehta, chief executive of the City Parochial Foundation, an organisation funding charitable work tackling poverty.

Andrew Hind, chief executive of the Charity Commission, said: “We get a lot of our best ideas by listening to the sector. This is another example of how we try to respond – making the best use of our data to help charities.”
