Research project to assess council funding levels

Third sector organisations have been invited to contribute to a research project examining whether local authority funding for the sector has declined over recent years.

Run by Birmingham Race Action Partnership, The Decline of Local Authority Grants – Fact or Fiction? will explore the impact of recent policy changes on funding provided by councils. The aims of the project are to help funders “improve the quality of their investment decisions” and help third sector organisations to better meet the requirements of funders.

Brap will be contacting funders and third sector organisations to take part in interviews and online surveys as part of the study.

Those involved in the study will also be asked to contribute to another project looking at how funding bodies invest in the third sector to build capacity. The Intelligent Funding – From Vision to Reality project will examine whether the approach works and look at the potential to build capacity in the sector.

Organisations looking to get involved in the research should visit or contact Asif Afridi at or Chris Allen at
