Research to promote infrastructure

NCVO will spend £700,000 lottery funding on helping organisations assess their impact

The NCVO has received £700,000 to help infrastructure groups "up their game".

The umbrella body will lead a three-year project with the Third Sector Research Centre and Triangle Consulting to help hundreds of infrastructure agencies "have more of an impact and to better communicate that impact to others".

Richard Piper, head of strategy and impact at the NCVO, said the programme would help organisations to demonstrate their value. "They are getting more and more questions from funders asking them to do this," said Piper.

An NCVO briefing paper on the plan says one of its main aims is to increase awareness among infrastructure groups of the benefits of "upping their game" on outcomes and impact.

It will also teach skills in areas such as strategic planning and enable infrastructure organisations to compare their outcomes against a new common outcomes framework that is being developed.

The Big Lottery Fund announced the funding last week as part of the second and final round of its Basis programme, which supports infrastructure initiatives.

A total of 119 third sector projects received £50m of funding (Third Sector Online, 3 March).
