Review your mail, urges regulator

Charities should review their mailing practices and search for more competitive services in the light of impending Royal Mail price increases, according to PostComm, the postal services regulator.

On 7 April, prices will increase from 34p to 36p for first class mail and from 24p to 27p for second class.

"It's not the news that mail users were hoping for, but it's an opportunity to review their mailing accounts," said a PostComm spokeswoman. "It's worth thinking about a franking machine or considering bulk mail services."

Charities can search for better deals on price comparison services such as Post-Switch, which promotes competition between the postal operators that have entered the market since February 2006.
