Richard McCourt does 10km Bupa Great Yorkshire Run for the Alzheimer's Society

- Richard McCourt, one half of the children's TV presenter duo Dick and Dom, and the actor Dean Andrews, from Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes, ran the 10km Bupa Great Yorkshire Run in Sheffield on 9 October to raise funds for the Alzheimer's Society. McCourt was taking part for the third successive year for the charity. "I cared for my mum, who had dementia, and I understand how hard it is to look after someone with the condition," he said. "I'm proud to be running for the Alzheimer's Society again in my home town."

- The actor Sienna Miller has signed a petition from the anti-vivisection organisation Buav, which calls for the European Commission to uphold a ban on the sale of cosmetics that have been tested on animals.

- The TV presenter Christine Bleakley was among the celebrities who gave their backing to Jeans for Genes Day, which raises money to support children with genetic disorders. It took place on 7 October. The singer Stacey Solomon, the model Danielle Lloyd and the girl band Parade were some of the other famous names that supported the event, which asks people to make donations in return for wearing jeans to work.

Kara Tointon- The former EastEnders actor and Strictly Come Dancing champion Kara Tointon took part in a 33km horse race in Bedfordshire last month to raise funds for the charity Dyslexia Action. Tointon, who is dyslexic, was unable to finish the race because she was thrown off her horse after about 20km.

- The actor Raquel Cassidy, from series including Teachers, Lead Balloon and Party Animals, will reopen the Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice shop in Fleet, Hampshire, on 14 October. The store has been closed since May after it was damaged in a fire.
