Growing concerns about risk management for voluntary organisations, including the threat of being sued by volunteers, are to be explored at a conference in London on 7 July.
A principal speaker at the conference, which is organised by Third Sector and Charity Logistics, will be Melanie Hurman, director of the Nonprofit Risk Management Center in Washington, DC.
Hurman is expected to describe how the organisation was set up as a central, Government-sponsored resource for charities in response to the rise of various risks, including volunteers seeking compensation.
Others speakers include Nick Starling from the Association of British Insurers and Shirley Scott of the Charity Finance Directors' Group. A Third Sector survey of charities' attitudes to risk management will be published at the conference.
Places cost £95 and can be booked by visiting www.nonprofitrisk.org.uk, or calling Hilary Griffin on 0845 131 0845.
