Rob Williamson to head Community Foundation

Acting Northern Rock Foundation chief appointed

The acting head of the Northern Rock Foundation has been appointed chief executive of the Community Foundation.

Rob Williamson has been covering the top job from his position as director of policy and communications at the Northern Rock Foundation since the departure of Fiona Ellis last month.

He will replace George Hepburn, who has led the Community Foundation, which operates in Tyne and Wear and Northumberland, since it was set up in 1988.

"My first priorities will be to learn the job, get to know the staff and, in particular, to hear the views of current donors," said Williamson, who will join in July.

"Then I'll be thinking about how to bring the next generation of donors on board - the ones who don't think of themselves as wealthy, but are still in a position to give."

Williamson has previously worked for Newcastle Council for Voluntary Service and for Newcastle City Council as a policy and strategy officer in the social policy and corporate initiatives team.

Hepburn said: "Rob is one of those engaging people who, if he is not at a meeting, people want to know where he is. I think he will continue the tradition of social justice here at the Community Foundation."
