Saga offers volunteering holidays for over-50s

Saga Holidays is launching a range of holidays for people who want to do volunteering work.

Its Volunteer Travel Project will give people over the age of 50 the chance to work with its charitable arm, the Saga Charitable Trust, in St Lucia in the Caribbean.

Volunteers are asked to pay more than £2,200 for a four-week stint and can work in a school in the capital, Castries.

The company said it was keen to attract volunteers with specialist skills such as music, drama, IT and speech therapy. It has already run projects in Nepal and South Africa.

Andrew Goodsell, chief executive of Saga Group, said many of the company's customers wanted to share their knowledge and help disadvantaged people.

"Our expansion has been limited only because of the great care we take to ensure that the projects supported make a sustainable difference to the communities in which we work and that they utilise the life skills of Saga volunteers," he said.
