Santander bank announces next charity partner

A staff vote plumps for the Alzheimer's Society for the next three years

Santander has selected the Alzheimer’s Society as its charity partner for the next three years.

The bank said the charity, which had been selected by a staff vote, would be its partner until the end of 2021.

A Santander spokesman said the company was discussing a fundraising target with the charity and would "update with specifics in due course".

The company announced earlier this week that it had raised £3.2m over the previous three years for Age UK and Barnardo’s against a target of £3m.

Santander said today that the focus of the new partnership would be for the organisations to work together to improve financial inclusion and help those who might struggle to cope with new technology.

"The bank and charity will combine their respective areas of expertise to establish joint strategic initiatives that will improve the quality of life of people affected by dementia," a Santander statement said.

The company said it wanted to become the "best digital dementia-friendly bank in the UK".

Jeremy Hughes, chief executive of the Alzheimer’s Society, said the charity was thrilled that so many Santander employees supported its cause during the staff vote.

"Together, we will work to make sure people can live well with dementia, leading financially independent lives," he said.
