Disabled people now make up 20.7 per cent - more than one-fifth - of Scope's staff. More than a third of the charity's senior managers are disabled.
When Scope set the target in October 2004 to reflect the proportion of disabled people in the working population, only 4 per cent of its 3,000 staff were disabled. It achieved its target by encouraging disabled people to apply for jobs.
"I am delighted we have managed to achieve this target," said Andy Rickell, executive director of Scope, who led the drive to increase the number of disabled staff.
"We won't be resting on our laurels. This marks only the start of the process."
