Scotland rallies to rebuild reputation

Fourteen Scottish charities have banded together to launch a Christmas TV ad campaign to bolster faith in the nation's voluntary sector after recent bad publicity.

The Giving Scotland campaign comes in the wake of a recent opinion poll that found 52 per cent of Scots were less likely to give to charity after the recent scandals.

Breast Cancer Care Scotland says individual donations have dropped by 30 per cent since trustees were suspended at Cancer Research Scotland in the summer after an investigation found that only £1.5m out of £13m raised had been spent on the cause.

The campaign, which begins this week, will see ads on TV and radio and in the national press, to emphasise the good that is done through the £250m donated to charity every year in Scotland.
