Scottish Executive teams with sector for social renewal

The Scottish Executive has promised a partnership with voluntary organisations to help regenerate Scotland's deprived communities.

Social Justice minister Margaret Curran yesterday announced the publication of the Executive's community regeneration statement, Better Communities in Scotland: Closing the Gap.

The document outlines a new partnership between central and local government, other public agencies, the private sector and voluntary and community groups.

The statement enshrines "community planning

as the means by which regeneration will be achieved. The role of voluntary organisations is emphasised both as a means of improving skills and confidence in communities.
