Scottish Executive told of 'frustration' over public services

The Scottish Executive will hear of the "strong feeling of frustration

among voluntary sector leaders at being sidelined in the debate over the future of public services, at an SCVO conference tomorrow.

"So far the debate about improving public services has made scant reference to the role of the voluntary sector,

SCVO's convenor professor Joan Stringer will tell a Glasgow conference on the role of the voluntary sector in public services on Thursday.

Stringer will argue that the debate on improving public services has been conducted largely within the public sector but that voluntary organisations have a vital contribution to make in improving the quality of service delivery.

SCVO is still waiting for social justice minister Iain Gray to respond to its report on the future of the Scottish social economy. A response was due in February.
